Magdalia’s New Single ‘Hold It Up’ feat Mayzie Chew
Independent singer-songwriter Magdalia’s new single ‘Hold It Up’, featuring Mayzie Chew is set for release February 23rd. In conjunction with Malikah McEwen, the new single was written, produced and recorded by Seetali Mack (Kaiyah Mercedes, Kevin Silvester), and features beautiful harmonies and heartfelt lyrics that will warm your heart, exploring the resounding and universal need for unwavering support in times of darkness. “When it storms down,” everyone needs a shoulder to lean on and someone to hold them up.
The single opens with a soundscape of rain and presents the unique and youthful vocals of emerging artist Mayzie Chew. She is joined by the powerful vocals of Magdalia in the chorus and second verse. ‘Hold It Up’ also features a stunning instrumental guitar break following the bridge along with brilliant ad libs to finish. Reminiscent of Florence & The Machine, Taylor Swift and Lorde, Magdalia is a soulful songstress with “one hell of a belt register” (Necessary Outlet) that is “hauntingly beautiful” (Pop Passion). She has topped the Australian Atomic Music Charts with her singles, ‘Great Expectations’ & ‘Fault Lines’ and her release ‘Noreen’ was voted one of the Real Songwriters of Melbourne Top 5 Songs of the Year.

Her most recent release ‘Fault Lines’ was released to positive reception from listeners, hailing it as “evocative and memorable” (Necessary Outlet). As well as qualifying for the Grand Final of the 2023 Listen Up Songwriting Prize, Melbourne local Magdalia has been described as “one of the most interesting and authentic voices on the Australian music scene” (Diaro De Shows). Hailing from Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs and having performed in venues such as The Paris Cat Jazz Club, The Bergy Bandroom and The Burdekin Hotel, her affinity for storytelling and understanding makes her a force to be reckoned with in her field. Featured artist, Mayzie Chew, is a young, emerging songwriter also hailing from south-east Melbourne. A vocal student under Magdalia, her unique voice is influenced by Tate McRae and Kasey Chambers and she captivates listeners with beautiful riffs and runs. At only 16, she is certainly one of Melbourne’s most promising young artists.
