Lisa Marie Presley Has Died: The Birth, Life And Death Of A Star
Elvis Presley's only child and singer-songwriter Lisa Marie Presley passed away at the age of 54 after being unexpectedly admitted to the hospital for a medical issue.
Presley's mother, Priscilla, announced today that her "wonderful daughter Lisa Marie has left us" in a statement (via the Associated Press). She was the most fervent, powerful, and loving woman I've ever met. Priscilla expressed her gratitude for everyone's "love and prayers."Presley passed only a few hours after being brought to the hospital for what may have been a heart attack. Presley's Calabasas house reportedly received an ambulance call on Thursday, January 12, and emergency personnel reportedly performed CPR there. Priscilla later issued a statement confirming the hospitalisation, writing at the time that her daughter was “receiving the best care”.
The only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, Lisa Marie Presley was also the only heir to her father's inheritance, which she inherited in 1980. Presley kept possession of the Graceland mansion and its 13 acres in Memphis, Tennessee, which served as Elvis' residence. She gave music promoter Robert F. X. Sillerman 85% of all the trademark rights to Elvis' name in 2004.
Between 2003 and 2012, she released three studio albums as a musician in her own right. "To Whom It May Concern" (2003) and "Now What" (2004), her first two albums, both debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 album rankings.
To Whom It May Concern, Presley's debut album, was released on April 8, 2003. It received a gold certification in June 2003 and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 albums list. Except for "The Road Between," which he co-authored with Gus Black, Presley wrote all the lyrics and co-wrote all the melodies. She had a concert in the UK to promote it. "Lights Out," the album's lead song, peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot Adult Top 40 chart and No. 16 in the UK. The song "Savior," which Presley and Billy Corgan co-wrote, was the B-side and was released.
Lisa Marie Presley has left us and according to many fans the time has come for her to meet her father and tell everything that happened since Elvis left the building. In Memphis the world is experiencing another loss and history seems to be repeating itself as the King's only descendant breathes her last. The shock to the world is obviously justified as we are talking about an artist who, apart from her charity work and artistic career, was also the daughter of one of the first global rock stars. Following the life of a man from birth to death, learning news about his life, his daily life and his career can be devastating for fans and the public in general. Like another Truman Show of an artistic nature, Lisa Marie's death marks the end of an era and the audience will "find themselves" next to her in her death just as they did when she was born.
