Some albums are written to be heard. Others are written to survive something. For indie folk artist Stephanie Phillips, based in West Chester, Pennsylvania, her seventh studio album, Walking the Tightrope, is very much the latter, a deeply personal body of work shaped by a year and a half of profound emotional upheaval. Written in the wake of her brother's death and during the beginning of her marriage to her second husband, the record reflects the disorienting mix of grief, love, transition and resilience that defined that stretch of her life.
