Some bands form around shared rehearsal space. New Sunday formed around a therapist's suggestion. The studio band from Hafnarfjordur, Iceland, founded in January 2026 by songwriter Einar Askelsson, grew directly out of Einar's battle with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, an unexpected journey into songwriting that began when his therapist encouraged him to find something to fight for during recovery. Each morning, picking up his guitar became a way to combat debilitating anxiety, and what started as a therapeutic exercise gradually evolved into a genuine obsession with music and poetry.
