Some people were given a voice with which to speak. Others have to fight for their voice and rebuild it carefully. Jude Austin is one of those individuals. Through the process of creating music, Austin managed to overcome some challenges and build a repertoire consisting of about 200 songs.

The personal history of the artist has become an integral part of this work. He created songs in the face of domestic violence, conflicts in the family, bullying, and the very process of transitioning from female to male gender. During the latter period, Austin even lost his voice for a couple of months, but eventually, he managed to get it back and started developing himself as a singer again. Needless to say, this event impacted the relationship to his instrument. Singing became not only a technical skill, but also something that should be explored once again in the context of understanding oneself.

All these events add emotional depth to the debut song of Austin called "Find Me at Home". The track has been written after an argument with a relative about the artist's transition and then was self-produced by the artist in 2025. However, the song should be understood not as a means of resolving a conflict; rather, it is a song that touches upon the issue of finding one's place – the place in which an individual could feel at home. The artist's goal is to create music that would help other listeners explore similar challenging moments without solving them.

As a musician, Jude Austin has found himself in the unique position between pop, alternative music, and blues. This combination gives him the opportunity to switch between the melodic accessibility and the worn-out emotional palette. The pop aspect helps to structure the songs, while the alternative elements give freedom. Blues adds the emotional depth that the artist can draw from.

The distinctive feature of Austin's voice has become obvious since the beginning of his musical career. As a student at the course Diploma of Music Performance at South Bank TAFE in 2022, he has been performing not only covers but also the original material. Austin's teacher, Peter T, who has a four-decade experience in teaching music, claimed that the student has the most distinctive voice that he had ever heard and added that with a right studio, recording, and song, he could hear this voice on the radio. Coming from a person who lost his singing voice during the period of transition, this opinion is especially important.

Speaking about his approach to the technical aspects of the craft, Austin shows a great level of independence in this sphere. After obtaining Diploma of Music Business at TAFE Ultimo, he has continued his development studying vocal production at Ableton Liveschool, and there he learned how to record, produce and promote his music. Course "Film Scoring Open Academy" at the Conservatorium of Sydney in 2025 has enriched his musical education even more. In this way, he has added yet another dimension to the career of an artist who is interested in atmosphere, storytelling and the interrelation of sounds and images.

Of course, this interest is not surprising. Austin is working as a film producer and cinematographer for 15 years, and he has been collaborating with different major musicians during this period. So, his portfolio includes eight music videos created for Grammy winners Rufus Du Sol, a Spotify project with Kesha, and Baker Boy, where he participated in the team that was nominated for an ARIA for Best Music Video. Austin has also worked with Billie Eilish. This experience gave him good opportunities to understand how to visually frame the music that can be heard. In fact, this tendency becomes more evident in his own artistic work.

One of the examples of such crossover is the music video for Austin's original song "White Rivers". Self-produced and directed, the video won an award at the 2026 Las Vegas Music Video Awards in the nomination Best Music Video Shot on an iPhone. At the same time, it became the finalist for the Best Music Video at the Zepstone International Film and Music Festival and was selected as an official one at the Alpine International Film Festival, London Vision Film Festival and Cinema Royale: Paris Edition 2026. Needless to say, this success should be regarded not only as festival awards, but also as the result of the work of the artist who knows how to transform limited possibilities of production into the artistic statement.

The instinct of self-determination is also present in Austin's live performance. In January 2024, he played with the three piece band at Gasoline Pony in Marrickville, while in April 2025, he performed an original sold out show with a four piece band at Hayes Street Studio. All these performances give an opportunity to listen to the music in the new context, as songs created in the framework of personal experiences should be transformed into the live ones using voice, rhythm, and instrumentation.

At the same time, there is a contrast between the experience of Austin as a filmmaker who helps other artists and the appearance of the latter in front of the camera in his own work. Indeed, the artist has been helping many other artists to create a visual representation of their music for years, but now he creates not only the music and performs it, but also comes up with the visual concepts and directs music videos. Instead of separating these disciplines, he tries to unite them in one language of art.

The reaction to "Find Me at Home" has already gone beyond the environment of the artist. Mix and master engineer Michael Lethos, known for his collaboration with Daryl Braithwaite, responded positively to this track, while Bollywood and Hollywood artist Shannon K, who has more than 3.6 million followers on social media, also expressed her support online.
