Composed in Silence: Conchis Built an Album Inside Her Own Stillness

"I Will Only Hurt Once" is the third single from Conchis's forthcoming album Gravity, an electronic alt-pop record written during a severe ME/CFS crash during which she was unable to play any instruments, use a computer or even listen to music. The entire album was composed in her mind before she was well enough to record it, every beat, melody, bassline and lyric imagined from a place of silence and stillness rather than built in any conventional studio setting. Driven by a restless bassline, bruising percussion, brooding synths and fractured electronic textures, the new single builds toward a soaring vocal release, exploring lyrically the difficult decision to leave a relationship that has begun to decay, and the hard realization that staying can hurt more than leaving.
