CAMENS: An Energetic Fusion Of Great Ideas
Real, raw and relatable, alternative indie collective Camens introduce their highly anticipated debut album, ‘WORK/LIFE/BALANCE’. Encapsulating the significance of how and why Camens exist, the record delves into the band’s real-world experiences and the public pressures of finding and maintaining a sustainable work-life balance.
Cathcy melodies and an absolutely perfect tone in their sound make you think that we are lucky to have this kind of music today. "Lying Won't Get You Anywhere" could be released in any era and still be a great song! - Indiefferential
Hailing from a forgotten small northern town, at the very beginning, the band were faced with scrambling until the end of the month to afford studio time, long nights in freezing cold practice rooms straight from working lengthy shifts and struggling to find time away from the daily grind to be creative. Channelling their frustrations into their music, over the past few years, Camens have captured the attention of audiences across the globe with their electrifying live show, relatable lyrics and ability to effortlessly create a sense of community and escapism.
Having set up a Patreon during lockdown to remain connected to their fans, the band saw an overwhelming outpour of love and support. With listeners hungry for more new music, Camens spent a few days locked in the studio alongside trusted producer Andy Gannon where over half the album was born. Whilst things haven’t always been easy, ‘WORK/LIFE/BALANCE’ sees Camens unafraid to tackle their struggles head-on and is a true celebration of how far the band have come.
Lead vocalist Scott Powell draws upon his own experiences throughout the album, putting pen to paper as he takes you on a journey through working in call centres, a catfish tinder date, and finding a balance of trying to navigate daily life whilst continuing to pursue his passion. Melting anthemic choruses with pounding drums and driving guitar melodies, ‘WORK/LIFE/BALANCE’ is an indie record for the ages, unleashing a new era of Camens.
Blending authentic lyrics with sophisticated 2000s guitar tones, ‘WORK/LIFE/BALANCE’ showcases a maturity in Camens’ craft. Taking inspiration from bands such as The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys and Circa Waves, the record walks the line between classic rock n’ roll and mainstream indie pop, topped off with a dash of northern realism. A masterpiece in its own right, the unveiling of the record is a major milestone for Camens, who have already received significant support from radio and press, alongside securing several national festival slots for this summer including Jurassic Fields, LeeStock, Weekend Fest and WeyFest. With their sites set high on entering the UK charts, Camens are already well on track for placement with the unwavering support of their ever growing fan base.
